I have the same dilemma. Maybe this is the stage where the threats associated with the new invention outweigh the advantages.

Possibly! It maybe feels like something we have spoken about for a long while, but no one has really focused on this specific threat. Feels like the biggest in the short term and potentially the long term to me.

Yep, you may right.

I tend to oscillate between imagining that we're on the verge of a golden era, the dawn of a revolution in human consciousness and an enlightened use of the incredible tech at our fingertips - to thinking about the impending collapse of civilisation as the many potential existential threats to humanity unfold. Feels like we are at a forking path.

It definitely does John. Genuinely no clue as to which way it will fall.

You are definitely not alone in thinking these thoughts. Thanks for writing about it, I loved reading it.

Great read James.

I'm in complete agreement. There has definitely been a push/pull sensation for quite some time around where technology is taking us, particularly with AI. I think you've articulated the issues really well; especially the point that as the lines become more blurred between reality and digital, we are entering a trepidatious period of both excitement and unease.

I think part of the issue is that things are advancing so fast, it's hard for humanity to really soak it in and understand the real use-cases effectively. To that point, I think a lot of people jump on the bandwagon without much thought simply because it's cool, but then get sucked in and struggle to let go and go back to being more human again.
